Call me a backwards hick or whatever you like, but I just scratch my head

in wonder with all these cries on the forum of "he's a racist" or "look at

those racist comments" or "ban that racist s.o.b." I really don't get it. I

know that racism is still a serious issue, but in the REAL world. I mean, if

people are denied employment because of their race, or housing, or

entrance into a college or university...or are physically threatened or

harrassed...then that is hideous, uncalled for, and should be remedied at

whatever cost. But when people get so upset when an anonymous person

behind a keyboard types something...my goodness why would you let that

get to you? People in this day and age have become so damn sensitive to

the spoken (or in this case typed) word that it's scary to me. The phrases

"man up" and "get over it" come to mind. If a person is so self-conscious

about their race or religion, why in the world would they register at an

online forum of this size and subject themselves to potentially hundreds of

racists, bigots, homophobes etc. to take shots at them? The day that

something that someone on this board says about me personally elicits

anger or biterness in me, is the day I step back and try to evaluate what

is wrong in my life that I would react that way to what some idiot on a

sports forum typed.

He guaranteed it to be a winner or next week is free. I should add that the parentheses were my idea.

So if I start up a website, you think it would be fine for me to start up a racist webboard? Or is it only okay cause this is a sports forum website?

shdw, I'm not sure I understand the correlation but let me try and answer and let me know if I leave something misunderstood. I do not think racism is cool or warranted at all...if I did you would probably see at least some in my posting, but I don't think you could find any. I do remember posting once where I would rather have Clarence Thomas or Condoleeza Rice living next door to me than Hillary Clinton or Ted Kennedy. It really is more of a character thing (at least my perceived character) than a race thing.

I'm just saying that I believe posters on here get too sensitive and defensive when they read certain words directed at them which are only the thoughts of someone sitting behind a computer screen. I just don't see how anyone on here can type anything toward me that would alter my life or how I see myself in any way whatsoever.

PBR, for the record, I have not and do not consider you racist in any way.

I will say that I disagree with your views on this. People do get too sensitive but that does not warrant racist comments by anyone on any forum.

shdw, I don't think that we disagree that much. I don't believe that there's any cause for racist comments either...I don't see where they are a constructive part of any forum. I'm speaking more to how people let them have an effect, where they shouldn't. You could probaly argue that people are actually inspired to continue making racist comments because of the reaction and attention that they ellicit.
